During the 1970s Wood Mackenzie started reviewing the North Sea oilfields and soon evolved to become a global analyst for the energy industry.

In 2001, a management buy-out launched the firm as an independent business, with staff invited to take an equity stake. Most of our staff still hold shares today - a powerful incentive to continue to give their best. This also contributes towards our exceptional staff retention rate, meaning extensive accumulated experience and more continuity of analysis and informed advice to our clients.

Since 2007, the quality of Wood Mackenzie's research has been enhanced by the acquisition of three leaders in their fields - coal specialists Hill & Associates in the US and Barlow Jonker in Australia; and most recently Brook Hunt, the UK-based metals analysts.
