Asia Pacific Coal Market Entry Strategy / Mining
Project
An Asian NOC was focused exclusively on oil production, and needed to develop a strategy to underpin its entry into the Asian coal market
Approach
The Wood Mackenzie consulting team worked closely with the client to help them understand the evolution of the coal market in the Asia Pacific region and develop the required framework and tools to assist in their decision-making process.
The team conducted a thorough analysis across several areas, including:
- the end-to-end coal value chain (from exploration and production, to marketing and trading);
- all downstream applications (power, coal-to-liquids) to CBM-LNG and carbon markets; and screening regional opportunities for the client's entry into the coal business, identifying key target assets for the client based on key criteria.
Finally, the team developed an entry strategy and implementation roadmap for the client to support a smooth and successful transition into this new market.
Outcome
The client was able to proceed with a detailed market entry plan and retained Wood Mackenzie as its strategic advisor on the due diligence and implementation phases of this major corporate development project.
