Comparison with the 1970s / Business Environment
Project
Wood Mackenzie assisted a Super major in understanding the similarities and differences between the current high price environment vs. that of the 1970s.
Approach
Wood Mackenzie hosted a workshop to help shape an understanding of what the industry can learn from the past. We found that the current price environment is only paralleled by that of the 1970s and provided an overview of the operating environment of the 1970s vs. 2000 focussing on:
- Political and global economic drivers
- NOC response - Increasing state take and resource nationalisation
- IOC response - Diversification, focus on technology & new geography
We then facilitated subsequent discussions the similarities and differences, lessons learned and identified key sign-posts for the future
Outcome
As a result of this project the client was able to identify a number of factors that could should be included in determining business development strategy
