High hopes for Greenland exploration
![]()
Greenland remains one of the world's largest, under-explored frontier areas. The first offshore wells in a decade will be drilled this summer, whilst the results of the Baffin Bay licensing are anticipated to be announced in Autumn 2010.
Greenland offers political stability and a fiscal regime which is consistent with the high subsurface risk that investors will face. None of the offshore wells drilled to date have been successful, but a major oil discovery could have multi-billion dollar potential.
Wood Mackenzie's new Insight weighs the technical and logistical exploration risks against the attractive and stable political landscape offered by Greenland, looking at:
- The broadening of the corporate landscape
- Development hurdles to an economically viable position
- The ongoing Baffin Bay licencing round
